Ha: Obama’s unpaid bill reeks of irony
Yesterday, I reported how President Obama left a Capitol Hill BBQ joint without paying his bill. On this morning’s radio program, Pat reminded us that this kind of behavior is exactly what the president was complaining about earlier this week.In remarks delivered Wednesday, President Obama used a steak dinner analogy to hit back at detractors who criticize him for racking up the national debt. Arguing that he inherited the massive debt from the beginning, he says Republicans ordered a nice steak dinner and stuck Obama with the tab just as he was sitting down to eat.The Bush administration may have left him with a steak, but it was Obama who added bottle after bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon to the tab to wash it down.

WSJ ed. board hits ‘boys in Chicago’ on Obama foreign policy
From today’s Wall Street Journal editorial praising Mitt Romney‘s foreign policy speech yesterday:
The boys in Chicago will keep saying that Mr. Obama has “strengthened our alliances and restored our standing.” But come again? Ask Israel, Poland or Saudi Arabia how confident they are of America’s friendship and resolve these days. The fires across the Middle East, from Libya to Syria to Iran, rage in a vacuum created by the perception that the U.S. is withdrawing from the region. Weakness emboldens adversaries, as Mr. Romney put it,Nike Tn Requin, whether Russia’s Vladimir Putin, violent Arab Islamists or Iran’s mullahs.
Presumably “boys in Chicago” refers to the Obama campaign headquarters. Though, that may not have been the best word choice.[Wall Street Journal]
“I hear a lot about that. Let me tell you about values. Hard work
Obama draws from Liberation Theology for new campaign theme
President Obama was campaigning in Vermont on Friday. While there, the he took a shot at what he terms as his opponents’ “you’re on your own economics”:
“I hear a lot about that. Let me tell you about values. Hard work, personal responsibility–those are values. But looking out for one another. That’s a value. The idea that we’re all in this together. I am my brother’s keeper. I am my sister’s keeper. That’s a value.”
I am my brother’s keeper is, of course, a reference to the biblical story of Cain and Abel. After killing his brother, God asks Cain where he is, to which he responds, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” Progressives are outraged that the president would be so presumptuous as to use the bible to justify policy, and have begun viciously attacking the president’s theocratic tendencies.Nah, I’m just kidding. Quoting bible is only dangerous when conservatives do it.But the president’s focus on that particular episode in the book of Genesis is instructive. This use of the Cain and Abel story is classic liberation theology, the tasty slurry of Christian teachings and Marxist class struggle that was characteristic of the Church the Obama family attended in Chicago for 20 years. The story of Cain and Abel has a special meaning to liberation theology that sets it apart from most mainstream Christian denominations. In most Christian churches, the idea of original sin is usually associated with the narrative of Adam and Eve, who disobeyed God when they fell to temptation and ate the forbidden fruit. In Liberation theology, on the other hand, Adam and Eve’s original sin is largely abandoned and replaced by an increased significance on Cain’s betrayal of his brother.Further explanation of this significance comes from Christopher Rowland and Mark Corner’s 1989 book Liberating Exegesis: The Challenge of Liberation Theology to Biblical Studies:
The story of Cain and Abel (Gen. 4) is read as an example of the kind of struggle which goes on in society between the landed and the landless, the farmers and the shepherds…The cause of Abel’s death is the division of labour, which creates social classes and the ensuing struggle for land.
As a central theme of the class-struggle preached at church the President attended, he’s clearly drawing from a familiar well.Of course,グッチ バッグ, this is all assuming that the president doesn’t just use faith cynically, something I for one refuse to even consider.Nick Rizzuto is a producer for Real News From The Blaze. McCain, Rice, and Santorum among first RNC speakers announced
The first speakers were named Monday for the Republican National Convention in Tampa at the end of August. The Tampa Bay Times reports that seven headline speakers for the event will be 2008 Republican presidential nominee John McCain, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, Florida Gov. Rick Scott, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez. Reuters reported late Monday night that Mitt Romney’s bitter primary opponent Rick Santorum has also agreed to speak at the convention, in addition to former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who spent much of the GOP presidential primary supporting the campaign of his father Texas Congressman Rep. Ron Paul. The announcement of other speakers, including the keynote address, are expected to come closer to the August 27-30 event. The Times notes that the RNC did not say what day or time any of the headliners would appear at the Tampa Bay Times Forum, where former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will officially become the 2012 Republican presidential nominee.Former Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, former Vice President Dick Cheney,Cheap Air Max Sale, and former Utah Governor and 2012 primary candidate Jon Huntsman, have said they will not attend the convention.Romney is expected to announce his running mate within the next few weeks, even possibly within the next few days. The before mentioned RNC speakers are expected to now be off the list of Romney’s potential running mates, as the Vice Presidential nominee usually gets a more rolled out announcement of a prominent speaking slot at the convention. GOP stars noticeably omitted from this initial speakers list and expected to be under consideration for the VP slot include: Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty.Rumors spread last month that the always bombastic Gov. Christie was slated to give the keynote address. Past RNC and DNC keynote speakers that have found their way to the top of the ticket in subsequent elections, and eventually the White House, include Barack Obama, Bill Clinton, and Ronald Reagan.Democrats announced last week that San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro will deliver the keynote speech at their convention in Charlotte early next month.Watch below some of the more memorable convention speeches in recent time:Illinois State Senator and U.S. Senate candidate Barack Obama, 2004 Democratic National Convention, Boston, MA:
“I stand here knowing that my story is part of the larger American story, that I owe a debt to all of those who came before me, and that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible.”
Former President Ronald Reagan, 1992 Republican National Convention, Houston, TX:
“May all of you as Americans never forget your heroic origins, never fail to seek divine guidance, and never lose your natural, God-given optimism.”
Vice President and Republican candidate for President George H.W. Bush, 1988 Republican National Convention, New Orleans, LA:
“I will keep America moving forward, always forward – for a better America, for an endless enduring dream and a thousand points of light.”
New York Governor Mario Cuomo, 1984 Democratic National Convention, San Francisco, CA:
“There is despair, Mr. President, in the faces that you don’t see, in the places that you don’t visit in your shining city.”
Former Screen Actors Guild President Ronald Reagan, 1964 Republican National Convention, San Francisco, California:
“If we lose freedom here, there’s no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.“

Christie has not been asked to have a ‘personality-ectomy’ for convention keynote
Loud and proud New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is slated to give the keynote speech at the Republican National Convention next week. How much do gun control laws actually control?
The conventional liberal wisdom goes a little something like this: More gun control laws = more control over guns = less gun crimes. But how accurate is this assumption?Conservative author Thomas Sowell notes that many of the most vocal gun control advocates have never fired a shot. And while Second Amendment supporters can’t expect everyone to know everything about firearms, we can, however, expect them to know they don’t know everything about firearms. Facts are as important in this debate as in any other — perhaps even more so given the life-and-death issues.
One can cherry-pick the factual studies,Louis Vuitton Outlet, or cite some studies that have subsequently been discredited, but the great bulk of the studies show that gun control laws do not in fact control guns. On net balance, they do not save lives but cost lives.Gun control laws allow some people to vent their emotions, politicians to grandstand and self-righteous people to “make a statement” — but all at the cost of other people’s lives.

Cain gets the Palin treatment in Iowa
What do you read? Rick Perry was asked by Time magazine in September and a reporter asked Herman Cain the same thing in Iowa on Tuesday. His answer, via Politico:
“What I read on a daily basis? Obviously I read newspaper publications. I read the Wall Street Journal. I read the USA Today, and I read sometimes my local paper. I also read some of the online publications and I also read some of the special bulletins that I get from the Republican National Committee which summarize a lot of the stuff.”

Red states are getting richer than blue states
Gee, maybe there’s something to be said about this “limited government” & “free market” stuff, huh?
The income of those living in red states has climbed 4.6% since the recession began in December 2007, a USA TODAY analysis of total increases found. The average income of those living in blue states and swing states saw a much slower increase. The personal income of blue states has increased 0.5%, while in the swing states, income increased 1.4%.
How has your state fared?
A couple of key observations:
What do people in North and South Dakota know that the rest of us don’t? (Hint: oil)Why on earth is Nevada (-10.6%) a “swing” state? Some states’,nike pas cher; growth in wealth comes from increased government assistanceDomestic energy production is a key driving factor in driving growth
Meanwhile, the Center for American Progress is still insisting the country’s economic performance is George W. Bush’s fault and warns against voting for Mitt Romney, who they describe as “Bush-esque.” The more conservative American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC), however, says that the growth of wealth in red states isn’t surprising — a byproduct of low taxes and business-friendly regulations.

‘Most Americans couldn’t care less’ about Drudge, Rush and Fox
Timothy Egan writes in the New York Times that “fewer and fewer” voters are taking cues from “kooks with microphones” in the conservative media:
Yes, the pyramid of political dissemination is still in place: from Drudge, to Rush, to Fox, to Republican politicians in green rooms, trickling down to all the lesser Drudges and Rushes in the wacko-sphere.They wheeze and whiff and hyperventilate. They claim there is a war on this, and a war on that (Christmas, God, golf pros). They have one mode: outrage, designed to get the pulse up, to generate a flight or fight reaction. But for all their huffing and puffing,Louis Vuitton Pas Cher, the bloviators of the far right can no longer blow any houses down; most Americans couldn’t care less. …So yes, Fox and friends can still crush their own… But that only drives the Republican Party further to the fringes. Virtually everything the broadcast bullies are against — sensible gun measures, immigration reform, raising taxes on the rich — are favored by a majority of Americans.
The only way to know if this is true is to know if voters ever took cues from conservative media in the first place. Other than a study that says Fox News…, when first launched, may have influenced less than 1 percent of the vote in the 2000 presidential election, evidence to support the theory is scant.
